Pyhä Ski Resort Responsibility Program
Pyhä is a Finnish family story now carried forward by the second generation. For us, responsibility is not about individual actions, but a long-term way of operating – today and in the future.
Pyhä is a Finnish family story now carried forward by the second generation. For us, responsibility is not about individual actions, but a long-term way of operating – today and in the future.
Responsible and long-term operations are core values of the Aho Group, owned by the Aho family, and have guided the development of Pyhätunturi Ltd since 1987. As a family business, we emphasize thoughtful growth, long-term thinking, and responsibility for the environment, our employees, customers, and the local community. Our goal is to develop Pyhä as a sustainable fell destination for future generations.
The long-term development of Pyhä is based on a Masterplan created with the Canadian company Ecosign. The plan is built on the principles of sustainable tourism and Pyhä’s unique location next to a national park. Key goals include a walkable, car-free resort, year-round services, ski-in ski-out accommodation, and maximizing the use of existing beds while minimizing land use. The Masterplan guides Pyhä’s growth by reducing emissions and environmental impact while improving the customer experience.
Pyhätunturi Ltd is part of the Rukakeskus Group’s responsibility program. Introduced in 2019, it continues the earlier environmental work started in 2008 and covers environmental, social, governance, and economic responsibility. The program ensures that Pyhä’s operations support sustainable tourism from the perspectives of nature, people, society, and the economy.
At Pyhä, we aim to be the leaders of responsible practices in the ski resort and tourism industry, turning our ambitions into concrete actions. We have been among the first in Finland and internationally in several areas of sustainable tourism:
